Eaglemoss Collections Marvel Family Figurines

One of the more under the radar Captain Marvel Family releases occurred under the Eaglemoss banner and unless you live in the United Kingdom, or your local comic shop happened to order them, or you regularly peruse the Diamond Previews catalog, or you stumbled across them on eBay, you may not be aware of them.

The Eaglemoss Collection has published figurines of Captain Marvel (as SHAZAM!), Black Adam, and Mary Marvel (as Shazam! Mary) under three different lines starting in 2008 with the latest release in 2017. The three lines are: DC Comics Super Hero Collection, DC Chess Collection, DC Super Hero Collection - Best of Figurines.

DC Comics Super Hero Collection

From 2008 to 2012, Eaglemoss released 155 DC Comics Super Hero and Villain figurines under the banner of the DC Comics Super Hero Collection (including special editions and the Blackest Night subset), three of which were Marvel Family members.

Each figurine was packaged in an open face, three-sided, two-color heavy cardboard box. The figurine was held in place by a two-piece vacuum-formed clear plastic case allowing the front as the figurine to be easily seen. Box sizes varied based on the size of the figurine. The top of the box was adorned with the DC swirl logo. The bottom of the box contained the following text:

Published by Eaglemoss Publications Ltd., 1st Floor, Beaumont House, Kensington Village, Avonmore Road, London W14 8TS

Recommended age 14+. Warning! Collectable figurines. Not designed or intended for play by children. Do not dispose of in the domestic waste.

™ and © 2008 DC Comics.

Each release also included a 20 page, four color, 8.6x10.8" magazine detailing the history of character. Both the boxed figurine and the magazine were packaged together in a sealed, clear, heavy plastic envelope.  Unfortunately, this allowed the boxed figurine to slip along the cover of the magazine while sealed. Because of this, some magazines experienced creases. There was also magazine corner damage due to transit. Because the figurines were securely boxed, they rarely sustained damage.
The bigger issue with this release is that the figures were cast in lead, which was prominently, and thankfully, displayed in a large bullet on the cover of each magazine (which, presumably was the reason these figurines were not to be disposed of in the domestic waste). Lead is a poisonous metal and should be handled carefully.

DC Chess Collection

From 2012 to 2015, Eaglemoss released 100 DC Comics Super Hero and Villain figurines (including four special editions) under the banner DC Chess Collection.

Like the prior series, each figurine was packaged in an open face, three-sided, two-color heavy cardboard box. The figurine was held in place by a two-piece vacuum-formed clear plastic case allowing the front as the figurine to be easily seen. Box sizes varied based on the size of the figurine. The top of the box was adorned with the DC peel logo. The bottom of the box contained the following text:

Published by Eaglemoss Ltd., 1st Floor, Beaumont House, Kensington Village, Avonmore Road, London W14 8TS.

Recommended age 14+. Warning! Collectable figurines. Not designed or intended for play by children. Made in China.

Each release also included a 16 page, four color, 8.6x10.8" magazine detailing the history of character.

With this release, Eaglemoss changed the composition of the figurine from lead to metallic resin, which was promiently displayed in a large bullet on the cover of each magazine (which, presumably was the reason that the disclaimer "not to be disposed of in the domestic waste" was removed from the text on the bottom of the box).

DC Super Hero Collection - Best of Figurines

From 2016 to 2018, Eaglemoss released 71 DC Comics Super Hero and Villain figures in this series. Two of the figurines were Marvel Family members and reproductions of DC Comics Super Hero Collection.

After the success of their line of heroes in the DC Comics Super Hero Collection, Eaglemoss started a new line, DC Super Hero Collection - Best of Figurines, to re-issue the most popular characters from the first series in metallic resin rather than being cast in lead as they had done in the first series.

While the figurines maintained the same height, other aspects of each release had been scaled down and refitted. These figurines were packaged in a four-color window box and came with a scaled-down in size magazine to match the size of the window box. By including the magazine in the box, the magazine was protected.

The 16 page magazine reprinted the previous magazine in a smaller aspect ratio of 5.75x7.10" (and which caused the art on the pages to be slightly clipped). The magazine kept many of the initial pages but replaced several of the end pages with new material.

Unlike prior releases, these were unnumbered. For a more detailed look at each issue, please access one of the following links:
